3 Stars Shreds Great While It Worked.
I bought this on sale from Target. It cuts though paper fast and easy with or w/o stapes. Did a good job on credit cards too. Then after a year it started jamming and then stopped working. It would get 4 stars if it lasted longer.

I didn’t think of it was such a big deal when I was buying this shredder but when I started to use it I found a big convenience in the rolling casters. You can move it around for your comfort when going though the paper you want shredded. If it worked longer maybe it would get 5 stars instead 4 just for the rolling casters.

A negative is the basket which jams and gets the shredding on the floor. (But that seems to be a problem with a lot of the shredders.)

1 Star Has defective sensor
Shredder itself works fine, but the sensor that shuts off the shredder fails quickly in this device. In my case, it starts automatically, but never shuts off until I turn off the switch manually. For others, it never starts when the sensor fails. A “Royal” pain!

4 Stars Works for me
I have owned this shredder for over a year and works fine. Shreds credit cards as well as multiple sheets. I don’t run it over 2-3 mins when I use it and let it rest at least 5 mins between uses.

The auto shutoff quit working after 6 mos, but that is not a problem for me as I just turn it off when I am finished.

Good shredder for the price.

5 Stars Royal 85x Shredder
I have had several paper shredders in the past, but this one is the greatest. I just wish that I bought the next size up. I lost my Mom this summer and she saved everything so I had a lot of her paper receipts, etc to get rid of and most of them had staples. This little thing just zipped thru all of them. I just love it. Would recomend it to anyone.

4 Stars Gets the job done
This shredder is perfect for what I use it for, and gets the job done. Hard to jam. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because I feel that it could use the next size larger rollers. All in all, a good value for the price.

1 Star Flimsy
One paper jam broke two plastic segments of the cutting mechanism, rendering it useless. It did last a couple of years of light use (more like 2 sheets at a time than 8 at a time). Since I’m in the market for a new shredder, I’ll take the opportunity to rate this one as a waste of money, and worse: something that will last forever in the landfill.

1 Star Don’t waste your money
I have had this shredder for only one year and it is already broken after only light household duty. As another reviewer stated, it will not shred credit cards or cd’s properly. Don’t waste your time or money.

1 Star Loud and Poorly Made
I bought this shredder at Target a while ago. At first it worked fine for a few months. But it is too loud! If you are shredding and talking to someone in the same room you will have to yell to be heard. Then a few months later, some of the segments which do the shredding broke and the machine was literally shredding itself! Don’t waste your money or hearing on this crap. I still need a shredder, but won’t be buying a Royal one again.

1 Star Keep looking
We bought two of these (on sale) and they both have had nothing but problems. Both of them within a month of using it started staying on all the time. As soon as you feed paper through it, it won’t shut off. If you feed a credit card through or more than one sheet of paper, it just leaves teeth marks in it but doesn’t shred it. The one my mother inlaw is using jammed and now sounds like a lawn mower. She is digging out one she has had for 10 years to replace the one we bought less than a year ago. If you one sheet of paper every six months then it might be a good deal but beside that I would keep looking.

5 Stars shredder
This is a great shredder. It handles easily 5 sheets at a time and you don’t have to remove staples. It will also shred credit cards. I would definitely recommend.

1 Star Trash lid is a faulty design
I bought mine at Target on sale for $79.99. Had the same problem as the other reviewer. After about 2 days of use, the lid stopped closing. Basically, the latch piece is only held on to the lid by glue which easily wears out. The same problem occurs with the spring load bracket. The glue holding the bracket wears out and the spring loaded lid stops opening as wide.

The garbage can size proportions are odd also, it very narrow and tall. You have to use the extra tall garbage bags which we didn’t have (and didn’t want to buy).

1 Star Poor design -Garbage lid lasted 10 minutes
The Rival Shredder/Garbage can is a great idea. Sadly, the garbage lid is a spring loaded flip up design that failed after opening and closing the lid 5-6 times. I purchased mine at Circuit City for 79.99, and returned it 20 minutes. later I did have a bit of fun watching the store clerk try to successfully close the garbage lid, only to have it flip back up in his face.

Shredder portion was okay, but I couldn’t get 7 folded pages to go through. The opening is also 5″ wide, so paper must be folded the long way.

Owning Your Own Paper Shredder Is a Must

A paper shredder is a machine used to shred up mail and other papers that contain information that you do not wish to share. The point of having a paper shredder is to prevent your mail getting into wrong hands. A paper shredder is a gadget which will successfully protect your private life. I will give you an example of its use; I often receive credit card applications with my other mail. If I just throw these credit card applications in the trash, someone can grab them and steal my identity.

Finding the credit card applications in my rubbish, he or she may use them to apply for a new credit card using my name. With the objective of preventing such misfortunes, I always use my paper shredder to destroy personal mail. Stealing an identity requires no more than stealing a name and some other personal information.

According to the Federal Trade commission, a secure way of preventing identity theft is to treat your mail carefully. This treatment will surely request a paper shredder. Nowadays, many different models of paper shredder are on the market. Paper shredder can be bought in almost all office supply stores. You can find paper shredders even in stores like Wal-Mart or Target. More »
