4 Stars paper shredder
i love the sleek look of the shredder, though it’s not pure white as photo, it’s off white/grey color. Performance
is very good, havent had any problem, dont over stuff or paper will jam otherwise, all is good. I would recommend for people who want a shredder with style and can do the job.
1 Star Piece of Junk!!!
My wife and bought this shredder to handle minimal amounts of shredding. Minimal being like 3 sheets a day, and sadly, this shredder couldn’t even handle that. It slowed down after 2 minutes of shredding 1 document at a time, and soon after it shut down completely. I recently took it apart to clean it, and found pieces of the motor inside the shredding mechanism. That’s right, it was shredding itself. What good is that? This shredder is junk.
4 Stars wish I would’ve gotten a shredder that can do more than 7 pages at a time
The product is great but I quickly realized 7 pages is not enough for most shredding jobs. Bank statements and other sensitive data is almost always more than 7 pages and it’s a time waister to seperate documents into 7 page increments. Learn from my mistake and get a larger shredder. You won’t regret it. After all, your time is worth it.
2 Stars Looks nice, Shreds poorly
I purchased this shredder a little over a year ago, and it is already broken. The sensor no longer works, so when I turn on the machine the shred blades start running without any paper in the slot. The rumors are true too about it not handling more than two or three pieces of paper. It is also really REALLY loud. It is so loud that I have to shut the door to my office, so as not to disturb the whole house. I have used shred oil extensively, so I’ve never neglected the blades. I will keep it because it does the job. It just doesn’t do the job that great. Then again, in my experience, what shredder actually works great through the years?! I’ve yet to find one, and this one is certainly NO exception. Unfortunately, this product is not recommended.
1 Star what a piece of crap
I bought this at Bed, Bath and Beyond and within three weeks it completely stopped working. I never over did it or used too much paper. It constantly jammed with less than 7 pages. It’s really loud and slow. Took it back and got another one thinking it was just that particular machine. When I got it home, it would not even work. It turned on but would not accept paper. DO NOT BUY THIS CRAPPY PRODUCT. Two out of two that I bought both broke within three weeks.

1 Star I have it, and I hate it
It worked for about 2 weeks fine, after which shredding became troublesome (and I used it only 2-3 times a day with 2-3 pages at a time, sparingly). After another month or so, the thing broke on me completely, and now I use it as a paperweight for the stack of unshredded documents, which I have to take to work and shred it there.
Do not buy this piece of junk!!!
1 Star Broke on me after 1 year
This shredder was nothing but a pain. The thing broke on me after about 1 year. Not sure what I’m supposed to do w/ the non-working, clunky thing now.
1 Star Junk
Stopped working after 2 weeks. Had it worked on and it then stopped working 3 weeks after that. Ended up in the dumpster.
1 Star Poor quality- does not meet expections
After two months of ownership and very light usage, the machine doesn’t work. I can’t tell whether it is the safety switch or the on/off one. Nevertheless, it doesn’t shred anymore. Stay away from this machine. You are asking for trouble if you buy one.
1 Star Sorry I bought it!
This shredder worked really well for about 2 weeks and then only worked if I banged on the basket and otherwise jiggled it. Now it rarely works at all. I’m giving up on it and tossing it.

1 Star please read the fine print before you purchase
Hidden withing the instructions, they tell you to keep this unplugged unless it is in use. How inconvenient is that? I used this about 3 times before it was totally unusable. Guess the fact it was plugged in, it got fried by a power surge. Completely useless. It is headed for the curbside trash.
1 Star Royal VF1700mx versus Fellowes SB87Cs
My Fellowes PS-70 strip shredder purchased 12/1994 finally shattered its metal drive gear on bank statements after 14 years of service. After some investigations in to a new shredder, I narrowed my decision down to the Royal VF1700MX and Fellowes SB-87Cs. Both these units are heavy duty, but I could only find one review for the VF1700MX even though it has been on the market for a year. I purchased both and compared them in a side by side test. Here is what I found.
Royal VF1700MX: Purchased at local warehouse club for ~$100.
+ Heavy Duty 6A @ 115VAC
+ 17 sheet (20 lb paper) 10 minutes continuous
+ cross-cut confetti = 0.170″ x 1.483″
+ weight = 28 lbs (no box packaging)
+ warranty = 1yr; 7yrs for cutter
Fellowes SB-87Cs: Display model purchased for ~$100
+ Heavy Duty 5A @ 120VAC
+ 15 sheet (20 lb paper) 20 minutes continuous
+ cross-cut confetti = 0.166″ x 1.642″
+ weight = 38 lbs (no box packaging)
+ warranty = 1yr; 7yrs for cutter
Fellowes PS-70: Dead – Purchased 12/1994 (remanufacturered)
+ Medium Duty 2.3A @ 120VAC
+ 8 sheet (20 lb paper)
+ strips = 0.250″
+ weight = 30 lbs (no box packaging)
Comparison Tests:
1. 9-sheet Shred
The motor speed of the VF1700MX dropped to about 1/2 during shredding. The SB-87Cs barely changed speed under the same load.
2. 3-page Bank Statement with 20 Check Carbon and 4 staples holding it all together.
The motor speed of the VF1700MX dropped to 1/3 this time during shredding. The motor speed of the SB-87Cs decreased slightly under the same load.
3. 4-page Bank Privacy Disclosure Letter in Standard Envelope (sealed)
The motor speed of the VF1700MX dropped to a very slow speed, but it completed the shredding. The motor speed of the SB-87Cs decreased only slightly under the same load.
Conclusion:
From strictly a specsmanship point of view the VF1700MX and SB-87Cs are very similar. In fact, the VF1700MX appears a bit better with its 6 amp motor and 17 sheet capacity. The truth is in the tests. The SB-87Cs tore through everything with relative ease. The VF1700MX struggled through all and at one point seemed like it might stop (jam) during the third test. Under no load, the VF1700MX makes a slight whining noise while the SB-87Cs is relatively quiet. What I see is that simply comparing based on sheet capacity and motor amps (assuming same duty level and shred type) is not accurate.
If you want a reasonably priced heavy duty shredder and you’re having difficulty making a choice, buy them and compare as I have done, or maybe use the weight of the shredder as the deciding factor. The bulk of the weight is in the cutter and motor, mot the plastic housing and electronics. The heavier unit will have a stronger and most likely larger motor, gears, and cutters which translate into a more durable and longer lasting shredder.
The VF1700MX got a free trip back to the store for a full refund. I would not recommend this shredder to anyone who expects “heavy duty” performance as advertised on the box. Never tried it with 17 sheets because I was afraid it might break.
Interestingly, no information can be found on Royal’s web site about the VF1700MX even though it has been selling for about one year. The customer service representative at www.Royal.com said that the VF1700MX was not discontinued, and that there was simply not enough space on the web site to display this item???

5 Stars Aurora AS810SD Review
This is one great shredder for the price. It is almost like getting the CD and DVD destroyer for free. This is NOT a cross-cut shredder, so it it really only useful at home. If you can live with that, you will have gotten a terrific bargain. Most people don’t really need a cross cut shredder just for shredding bills and such.

5 Stars Great Product, Great Seller
I received this shredder very quickly. It works exactly as described. A very smooth transaction.
1 Star Stopped working after less than a month
First, the most important thing: I never put more than 6 sheets through this at a time (it says it can handle eight). I used it only for home shredding: old bank statements and so forth, so it was really only lightly used. In other words, this is not a case of someone buying a low-end shredder and complaining if it breaks when trying to shove 84 pages through it at once.
The nitty gritty is this: After perhaps 100 total sheets of paper over the course of a few weeks, it just quit working. Reverse setting still works, but that’s hardly helpful since reverse doesn’t shred. Having seen all the great reviews, I’m very disappointed in this product. Note: this does not do “confetti” or “cross cut” shredding: it shreds things into long strips. Additionally, the CD “shredder” did not actually shred or even break the CD, but rather, simply engraved scratches on it. I could have done that with a utility knife without bothering with a shredder.
In summary: Not recommended.
4 Stars Shredder Review
The shredder works great. Sometimes if you only put one sheet of paper in you have to move it around before the sensor picks it up. It does a great job shredding CD’s and old credit cards.
5 Stars Great shredder for household use
My boyfriend and I purchased this shredder for use in our apartment. We had stacks of papers we already wanted to shred and this baby did the job. Comes with a CD and credit card shredder. Works great. You can take the top (shredder) part off and put it on an size can as it has adjustable length.
